Spring Fling

On Saturday, we had 20 people show up for our annual celebration of volunteerism we call our "Spring Fling." I fueled everyone with carbs and caffeine and then sent them off to cut back the Poison Oak and Star Thistle on FDLT. Then I set up tables and chair and laid out all of the mountain bike goodies that our local bike shops shared with us. Christopher Davis-Murai (aka: The Bicycle Chef) provided pulled pork on chibatta, grilled vegetables and beans. We raffled off the swag based on the number of hours people volunteered last year. Everyone went home full and satisfied. Come out this year on our trailwork days and put some sweat equity into the trails.

Register for Spring Fling

Be sure to register for the Spring Fling so that we know how much food to prepare. Our annual celebration of volunteers is going to happen on Saturday, May 12. The Bicycle Chef is going to provide food for after the trail work. Then we will raffle off prizes based on how many hours you donated to the club in 2011. Check the most recent FATRAC newsletter to see how many hours you earned and come join us for the fun. Go here to register:  http://www.fatrac.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=652

Mad Cat's Try the Divide

The weather has finally turned and the ride today was beautiful.  TJ, from Mad Cat, came out with caffeine and carbs to get us started. We broke into ability groups so that everyone could ride at their own pace. And then I provided hot chili and cold drinks to cap it all off.  Go in to Mad Cat's new location and say thanks to Mike for faithfully sponsoring FATRAC. Join us next month on the third Saturday for our club ride.

Saturday's Trailwork Update

Here is a note regarding our IMBA Trail Care Crew visit this weekend: This past storm has dropped some snow at lower elevations, but we do plan to have International Mountain Bike Association Trail Building School at the Georgetown Ranger Station starting at 9:00 AM on April 14, 2012.  The address for the Ranger Station is 7600 Wentworth Springs Road, Georgetown, CA 95634.  We will have the classroom session in the morning.  We may have to adjust our afternoon activity in the afternoon due to the snow conditions.

If you decide not to come, please let me know so we can adjust our lunches and refreshments.

Thank you,

Bicycle Chef at Spring Fling!

I just talked to Christopher Davis-Murai and he said he would like to cater our Spring Fling again this year.  As owner of Bicycle Chef, Christopher has provided gourmet food for our Spring Flings for years. He has a new cafe/bike shop in the works called Cask and Spoke. If you have not experienced his food, you are missing out.  Register for the Spring Fling so that we can get an accurate count then no one will go hungry. We will work on our beloved FDLT, have lunch, do the raffle and then go for a ride. What more could you ask for?   http://www.fatrac.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=652

After It Rains---Stay Home

This sad picture was taken after the recent rains. Please use good judgment when riding after rain. There are some trails that hold up better to rain than others.  If you start leaving gouges in the trail, stop riding. Volunteers have poured thousands of hours into these trails because we love them. It is very frustrating to see this kind of unnecessary destruction. Come out and join us on our many trailwork days so that you can feel the pride of ownership and responsibility for such a precious resource.

ALERT - Tahoe support emails needed now!

Our friends in TAMBA need our emails ("like" Tahoe Area Mountain Bike Association on Facebook, while you're thinking about it.)  Take 5 minutes, read the following request & act:

Love Your Trails!!

Overheard on the Connector this weekend: "I came out for the bike show and decided to ride these trails." "Yeah, me too.  Aren't they amazing?" "Yeah" I rode away with that satisfaction of knowing we have built and maintain some of the best trails in California! Come out this Saturday and invest in your trails. Give back.

Culvert Trailwork Pictures

There were lots of cameras out during the trailwork on the Culvert Trail on Saturday.  Go to our Facebook page to see more photos of everyone hard at work.

REI Culvert Trailwork

If you were out in the canyon this weekend you may have noticed that the Culvert Trail was closed. There were around 40 volunteers out there reworking and rehabilitating the trail. REI provided a grant that FATRAC has been using to work with State Parks to improve the trail. Forest Trails Alliance brought in heavy equipment to make quick work of turning fall line trail into swoopy single-track. this is just Phase One of the work we will be doing in the next year to make this trail much more sustainable as well as fun! Check our Facebook page for more photos of the work. Keep an eye on our web site and Facebook pages to find out when we are doing future trailwork so that you can invest some sweat equity in the trails you ride.
